DEAD-troit

Detroit's downfall has been long in coming with car crisis. Making gigantic monsters like our iconic Hummer dooms GM. Instead of making small energy efficient vehicles we have big SUV trucks that roll off assembly lines like sausages. The bailout may prove to be too little too late for GM.

Sadly, the extinction of DEAD-troit was something we could have avoided. With a more careful and diverse industrial policy we could have limited dependence on the automotive industry and petroleum based vehicles. Perhaps a move to wind mills and electric cars in the 70's when we faced our first energy shortage. If so, now DEAD-troit would be alive.
